Our Story
What is Rhythm of Life Society?
The Rhythm of Life Society is a registered charity organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our vision is a world where the transformative power of music enhances the well-being of every individual. Our mission is to reduce isolation and loneliness by offering inclusive, interactive drum circle events and programs that welcome people of all ages and abilities—no barriers, everyone has a place in the circle!

How It Started
The Rhythm of Life Society was founded on the belief that rhythm is a fundamental birthright and a force connecting all aspects of life. Rhythm pulses through everything—not only in music but in nature’s cycles, the beat of our hearts, movement, and the social bonds that hold us together. At Rhythm of Life, we use drum circles to foster this sense of connection, creating spaces where people can come together, find support, and share in the universal experience of rhythm.
Our founder, Lyle Povah, has spent over 40 years using rhythm as a tool for well-being. Through his work, he saw how rhythm could help people feel more connected and alive. When his for-profit business paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is when Lyle recognized that we were not only suffering from a health crisis but a crisis of disconnection and loneliness. Driven by this realization, he founded the Rhythm of Life Society as a community of like-minded people who believe in the healing power of music and movement.
In 2023 we began this journey with our biggest project to date, the Drum Run Adventure Tour which was a 2.5-month fundraising campaign for BC Children's Hospital Foundation across 22 cities in BC which brought ROLS to life.
Since Drum Run the mission of the Rhythm of Life Society has evolved to focus more on addressing the growing issues of isolation and loneliness by creating spaces for authentic connection. With each beat, we bring people closer, meeting a fundamental human need for meaningful relationships and the opportunity to be part of something greater than ourselves.
